We breathed new life into the Australasian Environmental Law Enforcement and Regulators neTwork (AELERT) through a modern rebrand, and carefully considered digital hub and user database. Now both AELERT and its members can seamlessly connect and share across community discussion boards, industry-relevant resources and AELERT-developed member products.

AELERT is a internationally recognised professional community of regulators on a mission to deliver positive environmental outcomes through regulation — policies, assistance and incentives. AELERT connects members to facilitate collaboration and solve common problems in the industry. With an out-dated website, this highly engaged community lacked a digital ecosystem to effectively connect and further their cause as a professional group.

We weren’t just building a website, this had to be a place for an online community to thrive. Our solution needed to become their primary communications hub — offering access to resources, forums and products — housed in a contemporary design that would inspire a sense of community. At the same time, the website also needed to support AELERT’s management of its member database.

Starting with development of an extensive UX strategy and UI toolkit, we rebuilt AELERT’s back end to deliver self-management functionality, as well as overhauling the user database to deliver more powerful impact and support to their members. Once that was in place we applied our premium visual identity to the site, including a new products page, real-time searchable resources library, events page and a comprehensive group and members forum area.

The development of this online hub created a prime opportunity to refresh the brand and create digital assets to ensure the community imbued a sense of inspiration and participation visually. Focusing on the core function of the network — a place for regulators to connect with each other — we had the insight that it takes two (or more) to form bridges and together build a wealth of knowledge and understanding. Based on this, our logo combined two leaves representing the members, with an overlap to highlight the network itself, and blue (law enforcement) and green (environmental) leading a lush new colour palette.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which we create, the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
