Waste is one of the biggest issues facing Australian communities, but there’s a lot people can do at home to help. Hornsby Shire Council wanted to educate their residents on best practice to support their waste management and recycling processes. To reach the community, we turned Hornsby Shire Council’s fleet of garbage disposal trucks into mobile billboards.

Covering more than 30 suburbs and townships across the whole council, these trucks would spread the message five days a week, every week of the year — without spending a cent on typically OOH placements in the area.

Designed to be applied over a 1-2 year period, Hornsby Shire Council needed a suite of single-minded messages to target local waste management issues when needed. So we created 15 bespoke executions, each clearly and colourfully promoting the ideal resident action for each waste stream — from soft plastic to food waste to unwanted textiles.

Across our 15 billboards, we ensured there was a diverse cast to effectively represent the population of Hornsby Shire Council. We also ensured all our props and sets were re-homed or recycled so that the spirit of the message was also encapsulated in the production values.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which we create, the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
