The City of Sydney asked us to create a fun, interactive welcome party for the residents and surrounding neighbours of the City West Housing Exordium building in Zetland. The event would include a Welcome to Country, a speech from the Lord Mayor Clover Moore, an address from the CEO of City West Housing Janelle Goulding, and food and activities for all present.
Our approach was to expand on the community aspect of the event, providing a setting that cultivated a sense of belonging and lasting friendship for residents of the Exordium and their neighbours. We achieved this by creating a community cookout environment.
Additionally, we created a community-generated mural out of sixty individual tea towels. Picking up individual tea towels for the mural, young and old in the community could collaborate, interact and have fun together while creating something they could all appreciate. At the end of the event individuals and families could take the tea towel that they painted home with them to use and be a fun and friendly reminder of the community they were a part of.
The event was attended by a large crowd of residents and neighbours of all ages, who all enjoyed the friendly inclusive atmosphere, Welcome to Country, and the kind words of the Lord Mayor and CEO of City West Housing.
